  • 21,000 years ago

    The Qandamooka People have lived on and around the lands and the seas in this area for tens of thousands of years.

  • 1841

    Surveyor James Warner produced a map that described the western part of Thornlands as undulating, open forest land with ironbark and gum.

  • 1851

    George Thorn acquired 631 acres in the area between South Street, Redland Bay Road and King Street, which became known as Thornslands.

  • 1872

    James Cross transformed 240 acres from Redland Bay and Mount Cotton Roads into a thriving orchard with oranges, bananas, plums and apples.

  • 1891

    James Pink, Curator of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, built one of the Redland's significant houses, The Palms, which gained fame as the home of Palms Chutney.

  • 1902

    The Thornlands area attracted pioneering farmers like Henry Ziegenfusz, who introduced tropical fruit cultivation by transforming dense forest lands into orchards.

  • 1910

    Thornlands State School emerged on crown land, with Miss Mary Fielding as its first teacher, catering to children from pioneering families in the area.

  • 1934

    Due to the agricultural significance of the area, the Duke of Gloucester visited the Cleveland district as part of his royal visit to Queensland.

  • 1967

    Kam Fai and Gwen Wong purchased this site, previously known as Bayvue Gardens, from Ernest and Selma Schwiezer.

  • Date

    Mr and Mrs Wong continued to sharefarm the property after purchasing, growing strawberries and passionfruit. Mr Wong always loved a chance to get his tractor on the red soil of Redlands.

  • 1974

    The Round Shop, Post Office and BP Service Station on the corner of Boundary Road and Panorama Drive.

  • 1976

    Paradise Garden was registered and named after the family's bakery businesses.

  • 1997

    The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads announced a proposal to widen Boundary Road to four lanes and to formally resume farmland in this area. This was gazetted in the Queensland Government Gazette on 9 October 1998.

    The Redland City Council approved the Wong family’s application for the development of a Neighbourhood Shopping Centre on this site.

  • 2022

    Work officially commenced on the development of Paradise Garden Shopping Village.
